In the current scenario, product/process development requires
optimal decisions in all phases. Optimization refers to the art of using
minimum limited resources to the best possible effect. Optimization techniques
are employed every day in pursuit of industrial planning, allocation,
scheduling, decision-making, etc. New optimization techniques are arriving
daily, often stimulated by fascinating insights from other fields
Heuristic and the meta-heuristic search are very popular kind of non-traditional optimization techniques nowadays. Genetic Algorithm, Simulated Annealing, Particle Swarm Optimization, ant colony algorithm are some of them. The heuristic optimization techniques have now gained immense popularity in real-world engineering search and optimization problems all over the world, and the applications ranging from mechanical component design, structure design, process design, planning, job shop scheduling, VLSI design, control systems, electrical power systems, pattern recognition, operations research, and machine learning. The objective of this workshop is to introduce a number of popular optimization methods used in design, emphasize the importance of optimization in engineering activities, introduce the working principles of various optimization techniques will be provided so that upon completion of the course the participants can use optimization techniques in their teaching, research and other day-to-day activities.
