About Event:
Power supply has become so important for the entire society that
serious efforts are required to provide a full proof protection system by
complimenting the present conventional system through innovative technology.
The proper operation of a power system requires an efficient, reliable and fast
acting protection scheme, which basically consists of protective relays and
switching devices. There has been a continuous improvement in the design of
relaying schemes. Exposure to field practices and design methodology is
essential for teaching this subject. We would like to foster and compliment the
academic updates in power system protection schemes.
Course content:
The course will provide in-depth knowledge on the following topics:
• Importance of power system protection.
• Nature and causes of faults.
• Qualities and schemes of protection.
• Power system earthing.
• Operating principles and characteristics of different types of Relays.
• Protection of electrical apparatus.
• Static and numerical relays.
• Theory and principle of arc interruption.
• Types of circuit breakers
Learning Outcomes:
After the completion of this faculty development program, the participant would be able to understand
• the causes of abnormal operating conditions of the apparatus and system.
• the characteristics and functions of relays and protection schemes.
• knowledge on apparatus protection.
