About Event:
Distributed Generation is currently one of the most actively
developed energy sector due to the smart power grid. The objective of this
workshop is to provide awareness to delegates about the impact of distributed
generation on grid stability. The power variations from renewable sources such
as wind and solar can cause frequency and voltage fluctuations. Recent
advancements in power electronic based control enables Distributed Generation
to provide Frequency and Voltage support for the power system grid, which is
called as ancillary service in a deregulated power system.Power systems require
ancillary services to maintain reliability and support their primary function
of delivering energy to customers. Ancillary services are principally
real-power generator control capacity, services the system operator, uses over
various time frames to maintain the required instantaneous and continuous
balance between aggregate generations and load. Ancillary Services consist of
services required for Maintaining load–generation balance (frequency control)
and Maintaining voltage and reactive power support (voltage control).
Hence, this workshop explores 6 sessions with the following topics.
1. Impacts of Distributed Generation on grid stability and introduction to Ancillary services..
2. Real power-frequency control in conventional Hydro and Thermal plants- Overview.
3.Voltage control and reactive power management- Overview.
4.Grid Frequency support by wind farms through conventional control and Virtual Inertia Control methodology.
5. Grid Voltage support by wind farms which includes Type 3 and Type 4 wind turbines.
