The application of normal form analysis can be invaluable for probing nonlinearity in systems. This straightforward approach not only works even when differential equations are explicit - this holds true even if there exists STATCOM or SVCs with Static VAr Compensators or Synchronous ComPo Stability Acts; we demonstrate that these scenarios can all be solved analytically!
Normal form analysis can be used to pinpoint optimal locations for Power System Stabilizer (PSS), SVC and STATCOM in order to dampen rotor swings with optimum efficacy. In literature-based techniques, initialization conditions are considered while indices that are distinct from these parameters are utilized in determining placements; thus giving rise to interesting discoveries!
An extensive array of case studies have been employed to ascertain the impact that PSS, SVC and STATCOM placements have on rotor damping; a comparative analysis has been undertaken in an effort to derive optimal locations for these controllers.
